Upcoming Hometown Hall of Fame Dedications

The Pro Football Hall of Fame will be honoring Paul Brown, Len Dawson, Rod Woodson and Bob Griese once again by recognizing them as Hometown Hall of Famer’s. The presentations are part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Hometown Hall of Famers™ program, in which Hall of Famers are presented with a historical plaque in their hometown. Presented by Allstate Insurance Company, the program honors the roots of the players’ great careers and promotes the positive values of the sport.

OCEANSIDE — Former NFL football star Willie Buchanon got his first taste of team sports at the Oceanside Boys & Girls Club, where he played basketball and baseball back when it was an all-boys center in the 1950s. “It was our escape — a place to go and keep us out of trouble,” Buchanon said.

As many of you are aware, we are in the midst of a renegotiation of the Logo Trust Agreement, or LTA as it is commonly referred to. For those of you who are not familiar with the LTA, it is the trust, or agreement, between the NFL and the NFL Alumni which defines how the NFLA can use its logo for the benefit of all retired NFL players. Part of the LTA is a payment from the NFL to the NFLA for not using our logo in certain places as the NFL sees value and prefers not having the NFLA create revenue for itself in certain arenas.

Where Are They Now?: Roosevelt Colvin

Roosevelt Colvin is 34 years old, soon to be 35, and he’s as busy now as he was during his 10-year career as an outside linebacker.

He is busier, to tell the truth. 

“I don’t get a lot of sleep,” Colvin said from his home in Indianapolis. “I go to bed around 12:30, 1 a.m. and get up at 6 to get the kids on the bus and start the day all over again. It’s a joy. To have to work out 15 years, go to meetings…”

Houston Health Screening Tops the Super Bowl Turnout

On Saturday, March 3, 2012, the Player Care Foundation, in association with Boone Heart Institute and the American Urology Association and Foundation, held a cardiovascular and prostate screening for retired NFL Players. The turnout was exceptional as it topped the Super Bowl participation in the previous month. 

Inaugural Members Convention - Annual Meeting Weekend

In 2012 the NFL Alumni will feature a true convention-style annual meeting with activities, speakers, career building, health and social events requested by the membership. Reunite 2012 Members Convention will be held Friday, May 4 through Sunday, May 6 in Phoenix, Arizona. The Members Convention will kick off Friday night with an Evening with the Legends dinner reception where attendees can relax with great food and great company. Saturday will provide an extensive menu of events including career development, health & wellness resources, and a CBA/ Legacy Fund informational seminar.

NFL Alumni Meets with Congress

Thursday, February 16, 2012, the NFL Alumni Board of Directors held a reception in Washington DC at the Capitol building to engage members of Congress in the Alumni’s dual missions. Among those in attendance were Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and former 14-year NFL veteran and current New Jersey Congressman Jon Runyan.

Success for 12th Annual Player Networking Event

The twelfth annual Player Networking Event (PNE) has been hailed a success with more than 350 attendees and 30 exhibitors, 17 of which are owned by current or former NFL players.
